[18F]ABBV-965i is a fluorine-18 labeled positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceutical developed for the in vivo imaging of tau protein aggregates. It is specifically designed as a selective ligand for 4-repeat (4R) tau isoforms, which are the primary pathological hallmark of tauopathies such as progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and corticobasal degeneration (CBD). Developed by AbbVie in collaboration with Invicro, the tracer aims to address the clinical need for a diagnostic tool capable of detecting 4R tau, as many existing tau tracers primarily bind to the 3R/4R mixed tau found in Alzheimer's disease. [18F]ABBV-965i is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, dosimetry, and brain uptake in patients with probable PSP compared to healthy volunteers.
